Anwar Rinquest
Anwar Rinquest is a dedicated swim coach who recognizes the crucial need for basic water safety skills to prevent drowning in the broader Western Cape. He is one of the few coaches in the region who has completed the revised and CATHSSETA (Culture Art Tourism Hospitality and Sports Sector Education and Training Authority) approved Swim South Africa Level 1 Coaching Course in 2014. This prestigious international qualification enables Anwar to conduct structured squad training, prepare specialized training plans tailored to each squad and individual skill level, and develop fitness programs in a safe and controlled manner.
Anwar’s journey in competitive swimming began at the young age of 8 at a local club in Cape Town, where he progressed to national levels in both swimming and water polo. His participation in surf-lifesaving competitions further inspired him to achieve high-level qualifications in water safety. Currently, he is a contracted swim coach at Virgin Active and serves as the head coach of Marlin Swimming Club based in Gatesville, Athlone. In addition to these roles, he coaches at Groote Schuur High School and serves as a swimming selector for Swim South Africa. Anwar also works as a talent scout, identifying promising Grade 7 swimmers and helping them progress to university-level competition.
Despite his extensive experience and numerous roles within the aquatic community, Anwar’s passion remains rooted in teaching basic water safety and fundamental swimming skills, ensuring that all in
